Treviso, 9 September 2020_It was the most popular recipe during the quarantine and now the tiramisu has been presented in Treviso for the “most delicious competition of the year”: the Tiramisu World Cup 2020 (https://tiramisuworldcup.com/en/join-us/). The fourth edition of the competition, which awards those who really make the best tiramisu in the world, faces the Covid-19 with courage and organization and confirms the dates and location: from October 30th to November 1st in the elegant winter garden set up in Piazza dei Signori in Treviso, in the heart of the city’s centre. And after the River Sile (2017), the Prosecco Hills (2018), the Spritz Time (2019), this year the theme will be Treviso, City of Sports.

200 competitors, strictly non-professionals, both Italian and foreign, who will compete in the preparation of Tiramisù (original recipe: ladyfingers, mascarpone cheese, eggs, sugar, coffee and cocoa) or creative Tiramisù (with the possibility to use up to three additional ingredients and replace the biscuit). The selections will take place on October 30th and 31st, the semifinals and finals on November 1st. The winner of the best creative recipe will be awarded the title of Creative Tiramisu World Champion, while the best in the original recipe will become the Tiramisu World Champion (https://tiramisuworldcup.com/en/the-rules/). And the registrations are already almost sold out. «This year we are reducing the numbers a little bit only and exclusively due to the anti-Covid rules – explains Francesco Redi, founder of Twissen and organizer of the Tiramisù World Cup – but we are about to run out of places. We have some competitors who booked last year, others, Spanish and English, who bought tickets even during the lockdown. The participants and judges come from all over Europe and all parts of Italy, from the South to the North».

And in the year that crowns tiramisu the king of desserts, the sweet economy at the time of Coronavirus is growing. «Never before have we seen a tiramisu boom like in this period – says Redi – We saw it while shopping during the lockdown: on supermarket shelves, ingredients like mascarpone cheese and ladyfingers were almost impossible to find». Comfort food par excellence, tiramisu is an increasingly “pop” dessert that is conquering cuisines all over the world. «In this last period – he continues – we observed, through our research, emergent markets, such as Indonesia, Turkey, South Korea and other countries that we didn’t even imagine. And there are many start-ups that were born following the Tiramisù World Cup and this is an undeniable fact. Among the competitors, many champions and finalists have already started a business».

The theme of this year will be Treviso, City of Sports. “Sport tourism, a real trend at the time of Covid, is certainly a strong segment in this province – remembers Redi -. We are gathering many activities to support the three days of tiramisu such as cycling, canoeing, horseback riding, golf, SUP and many others. We like to think that there is a way and the desire to stay together and do sustainable tourism”.

The Tiramisù World Cup has many surprises in store for the winners of this year: those who will be awarded “Champion of the TWC 2020” will go on tour in a European capital and will be the protagonists of a series of online experiences as web stars.
